WUXING · A LANGUAGE OF NATURE

Everything grows
in connection.

Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water.
Five ways to explore nature’s rhythms—and a little of your own.

Five pale watercolor circles with traditional dragon, bird, qilin, tiger and tortoise-and-snake motifs. Brush arrows follow Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, then return to Wood.

Wood · Growth

Like a tree taking root, Wood offers an image of growth and direction.

Water nourishes Wood. Wood feeds Fire.

Each element supports the next. Often called the Five Elements, Wuxing also means Five Phases—a traditional Chinese way of understanding change.

A LANGUAGE OF CHANGE

The Five Elements.

Wood 木, Fire 火, Earth 土, Metal 金, and Water 水 form Wuxing, a traditional Chinese framework for exploring patterns and relationships.

“Five Elements” is a familiar English name. “Five Phases” emphasizes their changing, interconnected character. Here, the images of growth, warmth, steadiness, clarity, and flow are invitations to reflection.

Your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of your day pillar. It belongs to one of these five elements, with a yin or yang expression. It is the starting point of a BaZi interpretation; it does not, by itself, determine which element is helpful for you.

How your chart is calculated.

Four Pillars are calculated by lunar-javascript 1.7.7, not generated by an AI model. This site adds explicit historical-time-zone handling.

  1. Your local birth time is resolved with Moment Timezone 0.6.0 and its bundled IANA data. Invalid clock times are rejected; repeated clock times require a choice. A matching IANA 2025b adjustment table supplies the historical DST amount, including non-hour and negative adjustments.
  2. The same instant is converted to fixed UTC+08:00 for the calendar library’s solar-term tables. Year and month change at the library’s exact Li Chun and monthly Jie boundaries—not Lunar New Year or the first day of a Gregorian month.
  3. The birth form removes the historical daylight-saving adjustment from the recorded local clock time before calculating day and hour pillars. This uses local standard time, with the day changing at midnight. It is not longitude-corrected or true solar time. At 23:00, the hour stem follows the next day’s Zi hour.

Different schools use different clock conventions. There is no single convention-free answer. Birth records, historical time-zone records, city coordinates and solar-term approximations also have limits. Near a boundary, verify the record and chosen method with your practitioner.

With an unknown time, this release presents only pillars that remain unchanged across the local date under the selected method. It does not invent an hour pillar. Dates are supported from 1900 through today.

Sex recorded at birth is optional and is not used for your basic chart. The traditional cycle method uses male/female categories; other entries are not automatically assigned to either category. Ten-year cycles use the interval to the relevant Jie solar term (minute-based sect 2). The current annual pillar changes at Li Chun. Cycle support stars are experimental whole-chart model estimates using uncalibrated parameters, not measured energy or predictions. They compare the birth chart with the added current cycle; they are not produced from simple counts. Property-specific Feng Shui advice is not included.
